Race Day in Greyton. Cape Epic

First team hits the water point.

First team hits the water point.

Today’s stage was held in and around Greyton. A key point being the 60 km water point in the main road. The road was closed to traffic and tents filled the pavements with anxious helpers awaited the riders. Adding to the excitement was a low circling helicopter with a TV camera crew which made it difficult to hear the announcer.

After waiting for what seemed like forever the first riders rounded the corner to cheers from the spectators. The first pair of riders wasted no time in filling up and moving on as the peloton was only a few seconds behind.

As more and more riders arrived the pace seemed to slow with many making sure before embarking on the last 28km. After the helicopter left with the first riders a Google UAV continued to circle the stop capturing the action. This was a first for many and attracted as much attention as the chopper and the riders. I overheard one Greyton’s younger residents telling his friend that it was his birthday soon and he was going to ask his dad for one!
