On Saturday morning just after 11h30 a fire started just behind Genadendal and spread up the mountains and towards Greyton. The area had experienced a week of very hot and dry conditions so it was just waiting for a spark. Luckily the wind was light from a southerly direction. Local and regional fire fighters responded immediately. Working on Fire brought in the Yellow Huey and a spotter plane which always reminds you of a Nam movie with its distinctive sound. The combined effort prevented the fire from threatening nearby houses and the main danger had been contained by 18h00. Well done Chaps!Yesterday and today’s heavy rain has put out any remaining embers in the mountains ensuring for the next week or two that we are out of any danger.
